automated and multi-functional method of notification

Solution description

When demanding an automated and multi-functional method of notification and summons with several enhanced functions, a more sophisticated hardware-based solution built on the powerful Vektra® Notification software is the right choice. This software runs on an independent backed-up computer connected to the necessary communication modules. It can be extended with Vektra® Warning or Vektra® SCADA modules.

By default, the following communication channels are supported: mobile phones, landline phones, SMS and VoIP. These can be supplemented with e-mails, paging and radio stations. This version of notification system is able to take into account time-dependent availability of different people (e.g. according to their working hours) and select appropriate and preferred methods of notification. Besides this, the operator is automatically informed of the notification result.

The extended hardware-based notification and summons system meets all strict criteria for warning and notification systems used in emergency situations. It was developed directly by Telegrafia a. s., which means that customers can have a possibility of receiving the solution customised according to their individual requirements directly by the manufacturer whereby saving substantial investment costs associated with building a modern notification system.

automated and multi-functional method of notification

Practical example

The system monitoring power distribution from the mains in a big office building detects a supply failure at night. This information is passed to the notification system which, based on the previous settings, selects a group of responsible technicians from its directory and automatically plays a pre-recorded voice message about the power supply failure to them by phone.

The technicians being summoned must confirm the information of the received phone call by providing a security code to the system. At the same time, the building administrator is notified. However, as it is pre-set that this person is out of reach at the time and their communication language is English, the system will text a message (SMS) about the power failure in English to them.

The notification and summons system remains fully operational during the entire period of power failure thanks to the built-in back-up batteries.

Advantages of the extended hardware-based notification and summons system

Speed

The whole complex process of notification and summons (manual calling, texting messages (SMS) and e‑mails) can be executed in just a few mouse clicks. When using multiple communication channels at the same time, it is possible to notify and summon a large number of people very quickly.

Adaptability

The software used in the system allows predefining various types of events, assigning them to the relevant persons to be notified when need it, as well as setting priorities and communication channels for their notification. Notification can be either simultaneous or sequential (first by phone, then SMS, e-mail., etc.), while considering the preferred communications channels, languages and other aspects.

Time dependent availability of responsible persons

The system is able to differentiate between the availabilities of people at different times (e. g. according to their working hours) and select preferred methods of notification. Their availabilities may be set in 15-minute intervals using a blank calendar. The system may use the central database that can be made accessible to several control centres or notification operators.

Feedback

The operator is informed of the outcome of notification automatically, either by sending a message from the device, obtaining a delivery confirmation message or a request for active response from the responsible person. After the notification process is completed, the system automatically generates a notification report.

Automation

The process of notification may also be activated automatically and can run unattended, during the operator’s absence, based on the information from the optional Vektra® SCADA module.

Resistance

Depending on its hardware, communication channels installed, and methods of interconnection with other systems, this notification solution may be designed as an extremely robust system, meeting the high standards defined for warning and notification systems in emergency situations.
