The implementation of tsunami early-warning systems in Oceania started after the destructive December 2004 tsunami taking place in that claimed lives of more than 220 thousand people. PAVIAN electronic sirens can be found on individual islands of French Polynesia and and the system establishment is ongoing. Considering a large number of small islands, on which the sirens are installed, the satellite-based control seems to be the most effective siren control solution.
